I was thrilled when my secretary informed me one morning that my name had just been announced over a local radio station. If I call them within thirty minutes, I would win a week's vacation for two at a ski resort in Vale, Colorado. I quickly dialed the station and made arrangements to pick up my tickets that afternoon.
I was still a single lady at the time, so I decided to ask my fifteen year old niece, Wendy, to join me. Since she lived in California, and I in Florida, it would give us a chance go spend some time together.
I arranged to meet her in Los Angeles, then fly to Vale. Everything worked perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our lodging was a beautiful condominium with a panoramic view of the mountains.
Our whole week was planned with daily activities, from hiking to white water rafting. Time flew by, and soon only one more sight-seeing excursion was left. Bob, our driver came to pick us up in a jeep. As I climbed into the back seat while Wendy got into the front seat, I took a deep breath of the crisp mountain air, thanking my lucky stars for such a perfect day to end my visit.
Wendy and I had packed a picnic basket. To make the occasion perfect, Bob said that he knew a special spot high in the mounta7ins where we could eat lunch, while looking down upon one of the most beautiful views in the world.
He was true to his word. After a spectacular drive up through the most luscious country I had ever seen, Bob stopped the jeep, and we enjoyed our meal at what seem to be the top of the creation.
As all good things must end, it was soon time to pack up, climb into the jeep, and make our way back to the condo. As we retraced our journey back down the narrow trails, some barely wide enough for the jeep to stay on, I tried to soak up all the beauty so that I could describe it to my friends at home.
Suddenly,I realized that we were no longer moving down the road, but were up on our side, hanging on two wheels as if almost in limbo. Then I felt the motion, but not of traveling forward. In a breath of a second, I knew my life was about to end. I looked down towards the cavernous cliffs below which would be our graves. The jeep was teetering on the brink of disaster, and death would be the result.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a large hand appear, catch the spilling vehicle in midair, and set it securely back on the road. As I a felt gentle finger brush against my cheek, I blinked; and the hand was gone.
Wendy turned to me, her big brown eyes searching mine, as she asked in a whisper, "What happened?"
I reached forward to wrap my arms around her shoulders. "All I know is that we were just saved by an angel."
